Dayna for Plano ISD, Place 2
Dr. Dayna Oscherwitz Ph.D. is a committed educator with nearly thirty years experience in the classroom and in educational administration. She is running for Plano ISD, Place 2 to share her expertise and her passion for excellence in education.
Meet Dr. Dayna Oscherwitz
Dayna is a wife, mother, and educator, who has lived in Plano ISD for 19 years. She is eager to harness her more nearly thirty years experience in the classroom, and her ten years in academic administration to help Plano ISD continue to excel.
Dayna is a proud, naturalized Texan (married to a native Texan), who first moved to San Antonio, with her parents, who were both active duty members of the US Air Force. She completed her B.A. in English, French, and Secondary Education at UTSA, and then taught high school in Northside ISD. She moved to Austin, with her husband, Brian, where she taught middle school in Austin ISD, before pursuing her M.A. and her Ph.D. in Francophone Studies at UT Austin.
She lectured at Catholic University in Washington DC before accepting a position as Assistant Professor of French and Francophone Studies at SMU in Dallas. Dayna has been on faculty at SMU for 18 years, where she teaches courses on French and African cinema, and researches the relationship between film and history in the French-speaking world. In addition to teaching and research, she has served in a range of administrative and leadership roles, including as Chair of the Department of World Languages and Literatures and as Assistant Provost for General Education. She has also served as the President of the SMU Faculty Senate and as the Faculty Trustee on the SMU Board of Trustees.
